I have long had a desire to create a community in which most of the people have a solid financial literacy and have been practicing good money habits all their lives.
During my banking career, I discovered the best part of the job was interacting with so many different people. Each transaction had such a wide range of meaning possibilities, anything from depositing the first paycheck from a first job to making a large withdrawal for the down payment on a dream house. I learned that how we use our money closely reflects our life. When I did tax returns, I saw firsthand that nearly all major milestone events are reflected in these yearly tax documents. I loved celebrating each new birth; a new adventure starting from a relocation; seeing a first home purchased and especially cheering a paid-off mortgage; seeing a child start or graduate college; a new business venture started; a retirement or a successful business sale; and honoring the special life of each client by reading the obituary. There are an immeasurable number of details in our lives that prove there is no single right way to live a successful life.
Hello! My name is Christina Chisum, and I am thrilled for the opportunity to be the navigator to transform your desire for handling your money better into the actions that result in successful living.
I am excited about matching your use of money to what you truly value in your life. I have a deep curiosity about and am fascinated by so much of what the world has to offer. There are truly an infinite number of ways to experience life. I believe this philosophy comes from growing up in a military family and having a love of travel and appreciation for different cultures woven into my early childhood experiences.
While taking my college finance courses, I saw that much of what I actually use most often in my daily finances, I learned from my father at an early age. I want you to be able to give your future generations this experience too. One big thing he did to help me learn money was by giving me my first opportunity in 1988-89 to set up a honor system snack ‘shop’ where he worked at the Army Space Institute in Ft Leavenworth, KS. I have so much gratitude for those employees who bought candy bars or chips for an outrageous 50 cents because they helped me learn how to manage inventory, the importance of sufficient cashflow, and about bank accounts. As an 8 year old, I thought the bank teller had the coolest job; I got to experience ten years later that it was true!
In college, I enjoyed studying economics, physics, statistics, accounting and finance; I achieved a Bachelor of Science, Business Administration in Professional Accountancy with a minor in Finance from the University of West Florida in 2009. I have since discovered the joy in applying neuroscience, psychology, and philosophy principles to personal finance.
My first work experience was during high school tutoring math at an education center. My first official adult job at 18 was as a bank teller, which lasted ten years in three states. I transitioned into tax accounting for a small CPA firm in Florida and then in Colorado during the past fifteen years. I performed the bookkeeping services for our clients and additionally for local nonprofits. I feel proud about producing accurate financial records; finding easy ways to save on expenses and taxes; and advising businesses by translating your books’ numbers into what they actually represent for your business.
